The mission statement of Hood Healthcare includes 'the physical rehabilitation of individuals with kidney disease'. This is accomplished through our testing and treatment protocols. Through our testing and treatment we are effecting three main areas of physical health for kidney disease individuals. These three areas are Cardiovascular health, Muscular Health, and Functional Abilities.

In many of the same ways cardiovascular health can be improved in the general population, cardiovascular health can be improved in the kidney disease population. These include decreased coronary artery disease, decreased cerebral vascular disease, and lower blood pressure. By reducing the incidence of these factors in individuals with kidney disease, there can be a direct increase in their overall functional abilities.
As with cardiovascular improvements, muscle strength and health can also by improved in those with kidney disease. The factors that can specifically by improved are improved muscle mass, increased muscle fibers, and increased VO2max. These improvements also have a direct effect on improving the functional abilities and overall health of individuals with kidney disease.
Numerous studies have shown over and over that kidney disease, and more so, dialysis have a tremendous negative effect on muscle and cardiovascular health. Through proper intervention these negative effects can be stopped and even reversed, thus allowing individuals greater improved functional abilities including increased walking speeds and decreased incidence of falls.
